Nominations are now open for the 9th Middle East Insurance Industry Awards (MIIA), organised by Middle East Insurance Review (MEIR), which aims to recognise excellence in the MENA insurance sector and promote greater professionalism in the market.
After two years of the awards being hosted in the virtual space, the MIIA is finally returning to the real world this year and will be held live in Dubai in November.
“It has been encouraging to see the bravado of the Middle East in opening up sooner than some other markets around the world. The industry has stood the tests of the pandemic and remained grounded and unstoppable,” said MEIR CEO Sheela Suppiah.
The awards have become highly coveted accolades in the region, as they are backed by a panel of distinguished judges comprising respected leaders in the industry. Nominations need to meet the clearly defined criteria and the entire judging process is transparent, with the results independently audited by EY.
What’s new?
This year’s awards will introduce a new category – InsurTech of the Year – to acknowledge the rise of innovation via new InsurTech companies and recognise the critical role they play in driving the industry forward.
The Reinsurance Company of the Year category has also been split into Life Reinsurer of the Year and General Reinsurer of the Year to ensure fairer competition.
In addition, the awards this year will see a new feature added to the final judging process – all company-specific finalists will be given the chance to pitch their case directly to the judges, via a live stream interview.

For all categories, the qualifying period is from 1 May 2021 to 30 April 2022. The submission deadlines for third party and self-nomination are 11 June 2022 and 11 July 2022, respectively. The awards judging will take place on 19 September 2022 and the gala dinner will be held in Dubai on 21 November.
