Direct insurers in Tunisia reported a total turnover of TND2.53bn ($867.7m) in the first half of 2026, 13% higher compared to the corresponding half of 2025, according to data from the General Insurance Committee (CGA).
This growth was driven by the life insurance segment where premiums grew by 9.4% year on year to TND774.2m, raising the branch’s share of total premiums from 29.0% to 30.6%.
Non-life insurance business increased by 10.4% to TND1.76bn, but its share of total premiums decreased from 71.0% to 69.4%.
Motor insurance maintained its leading position in the non-life market, with premiums reaching TND943.1m in the first six months of the year, up by 9.3% from 1H2025. Despite the increase in premiums, motor insurance's share of total premiums fell from 38.5% to 37.3%.
Health insurance premiums jumped by 16.9% from TND342.1m in 1H2025 to TND400m in 1H2026. Its share of total premiums increased from 15.3% to 15.8%.

On the compensation side, CGA data show that compensation paid by direct insurance companies increased by 15.6% to TND1,202m in the first half of 2026, compared to TND1,039.7m in the corresponding half of 2025. The compensation paid by life insurers surged by 30.4% from TND234.6m in 1H2025 to TND305.9m in the first six months of this year. Non-life insurers paid compensation of TND896.1m in 1H2026, an increase of 11.3% year on year.
