Nigeria:NAICOM partners with Ministry to accelerate industry growth

| 18 Nov 2025

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and the Federal Ministry of Interior have discussed the critical need for an inclusive insurance policy that covers risks faced by travellers, migrants, workers, and families.

The discussion took place during a strategic working visit by a NAICOM delegation led by Commissioner for Insurance Olusegun Omosehin to the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in Abuja.

Both agencies agreed to explore the adoption of travel insurance coverage for individuals entering Nigeria on short-stay visas, a move expected to reduce government expenditure and enhance fiscal efficiency.

Both sides also exchanged ideas on modalities and frameworks to strengthen local insurers, protect policyholders, and enforce capacity-driven categorisation

Mr Omosehin emphasised the Commission's willingness to work closely with the ministry to foster innovation, encourage the adoption of compulsory insurance, and enhance data synchronisation across various agencies.
