Egypt:Insurance industry mourns loss of Mr Wael El Khatib

The Insurance Federation of Egypt has announced the passing of one of the most prominent figures in the insurance industry, Mr Wael El Khatib.

The late El Khatib was the senior partner and chairman of Lockton (MENA).

He passed away yesterday in Saudi Arabia.

He joined Lockton London in 2007 to head Lockton MENA operations. In April 2009, he set up Lockton’s operation in the Dubai International Financial Centre. Lockton now has six offices across the region.

He moved to London in 1994, where he worked with Minet Group as a managing director for the Middle East & North Africa division. He subsequently held senior positions with other Lloyd’s brokers until he joined Lockton in 2007. Previously, he had joined ADNIC in 1976, and risen to head of the company in 1991.

He was a fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute. He held a master's degree in insurance and risk management from the City University of London.

A Message from the DIFC Insurance Association

It is with deep sorrow and sadness that the DIFC Insurance Association learned of the unfortunate and unexpected passing of Mr. Wael Khatib, Chairman and Founding Partner of Lockton MENA, whilst in Saudi Arabia, on the 9th of September 2019. Wael was a highly respected and prominent figure in the market and an early visionary of the region's potential. He greatly supported the goals and aspirations of the DIFC market. Wael leaves a legacy of respect and friendship with all those who knew him. We extend our deepest condolences to Wael's family, colleagues and friends.
