Egypt: CIL appoints new Managing Director
Mr Mike Newton has been appointed as Managing Director of Commercial International Life Insurance Company (CIL).
Mr Newton has some 40 years of experience in retail financial services, 25 of which have been in the bancassurance sector. He started his career with Lloyds Bank.
Allianz Egypt announces new CFO
Allianz Egypt has appointed Mr Ayman Hegazy as CFO, taking the place of Mr Anuj Agarwal, who is moving to Allianz Indonesia.
Over his nearly eight-year tenure at Allianz to date, Mr Hegazy has worked in managerial positions across the region, including Finance Manager for Allianz Takaful in Bahrain and CFO for Allianz Saudi Fransi in Saudi Arabia.
Towers Watson appoints new EMEA Head for reinsurance
Towers Watson has appointed Mr Keith Harrison as Head of (Re)insurance Brokerage business in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.
Based in London, Mr Harrison joined Towers Watson with the 2002 acquisition of Denis M Clayton & C., a company he joined in 1989. Most recently, he headed North American reinsurance in London and will continue to oversee this business after taking up his new role. He will also be involved with broking activities on behalf of North American clients.
Currently, Mr Harrison is a member of the Towers Watson (Re)insurance Brokers and chairs the EMEA brokerage management board that oversees all of the company’s brokerage business in the region.
UAE: Chartis makes senior appointments
Mr Phil Ashkuri has been appointed as Head of Consumer Insurance and is responsible for all consumer business within the Central Region including accident & health, travel, auto & home insurance portfolios distributed through agents, bancassurance partners, brokers, airlines and travel agents.
He joins Chartis from HSBC UAE where he was Head of Insurance, with responsibility for all aspects of insurance within the UAE for the bank, including product supply, distribution strategy, operational fulfillment and delivery of P&L.
Mr David Cook has been appointed Head of Commercial Insurance, responsible for the Region’s commercial insurances including property, energy, casualty, marine, financial lines and SME portfolios. Mr Cook has been with Chartis & AIG since 1996 and has held a number of senior management roles in the US and overseas, including five years in Japan, taking responsibility for commercial lines across Japan & Korea. He moved to Dubai, UAE, in 2010 to manage the regional liabilities portfolio and most recently was responsible for commercial lines operations across Central Region.
Both Mr Ashkuri and Mr Cook are based at the Dubai International Financial Centre, in Chartis’ Central Region office. The Region covers operations in 21 countries, including eight countries in MENA, namely Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
