Takaful News - Saudi Arabia: Fire Insurance to be Compulsory
Source: Middle East Insurance Review | Mar 2007
The Saudi Government is planning to introduce a mandatory fire insurance system to minimise losses arising from fires.
The compulsory system is expected to cover factories, commercial and office buildings, warehouses, fuel stations, gas outlets, laundries and medical facilities.
Fire losses are estimated to have cost Saudi insurance companies about SAR1.83 billion (US$487.91 million) between 1995 and 2005.
