Uganda: First takaful company launched on 3 March

Uganda’s first takaful company, Tamini General Insurance, has received official authorisation to launch operations.

The Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda officially licensed Tamini in November 2025.

Tamini is a member of the Salaam Group, an ethical finance conglomerate with operations in Uganda, Djibouti, Kenya and Malaysia.

A sister institution, Salaam Bank, was launched in March 2024 as the first licensed Islamic bank in Uganda. The launch of the bank and the insurer followed legislative changes that provide for Shariah-compliant financial services. M
