Zurich Insurance Group’s climate charity Z Zurich Foundation will scale up its efforts to combat climate change with the launch of a climate resilience programme for urban areas in 10 countries.

The climate charity ran a pilot in three of the countries last year. The Urban Climate Resilience Programme (UCRP) will work with local communities to find tailored solutions to each community’s climate-related issues.

It follows pilot programmes in 40 vulnerable communities in cities across Colombia, Ecuador and the US in 2022 in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Plan International and Resilient Cities Network.

From 1 January 2023, the programme will launch in seven more countries – Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Turkey, UK, Australia and Spain – in partnership with Zurich’s local offices and charities.

Z Zurich Foundation said its partnerships will work with both the private sector and local authorities to find adaption solutions and systems to support urban communities at risk from the impact of climate change.

The UCRP is a collaboration between the Z Zurich Foundation, several members of the Zurich Insurance Group, the Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance and city networks. M
