UAE: Goverenment launches website for owners of vehicles damaged in floods

The Ministry of Interior has launched a website for car owners in Fujairah to facilitate the filing of incident reports for their vehicles that were damaged by the recent devastating floods.

Those who have had their cars totalled or wrecked in the record-breaking rain will be able to use this report to claim insurance, reported Khaleej Times.

Car owners can upload a photo of their damaged cars and registration cards on the website, that is accessible in both English and Arabic. The fee for the service is AED20 ($5.44). Once the details are submitted, the users are issued a registration number.

The UAE recorded the highest rainfall in 27 years in July, resulting in flooding in different areas of Fujairah, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah.

Both the UAE residents and businesses have started submitting their insurance claims following the massive floods.

Industry executives expect most of the individual insurance claims will be related to vehicles as thousands of vehicles were damaged and swept away in the floods, with the total claims described as “serious”.

Al Wathba National Insurance Company COO Anas Mistareehi said insurers have started to receive claims mainly from the northern emirates where the rains were particularly heavy.

“The claims department has started to be notified by corporates having operations in a couple of sectors including properties, projects, heavy equipment, etc,” he said. As for claims from individuals, these are mainly motor claims because the homeowner’s insurance policy count is low in the northern emirates. M
