Jordan: Mandatory motor insurance system covers all accidents except for criminal or deliberate acts

Source: Middle East Insurance Review | Apr 2021

The compulsory insurance system for vehicles covers all motor accidents by vehicles that are fully insured unless they constitute a felony or intentional misdemeanour, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply’s director of the Insurance Department Wael Mahadin has said.

In a statement to the Jordan News Agency, Mr Mahadin said vehicles that are fully insured are covered by the insurance contract concluded between the customer and the insurer.

He also explained that insurance companies are obligated to compensate for damages and injuries caused by snow, indicating that snow is not considered an exception in the mandatory motor insurance system.

He added that insurance companies have begun to cover accidents that resulted from the recent snowy weather conditions, according to the mandatory insurance system in force.

Between 17 and 21 February, the kingdom witnessed snowfall in several areas. In one instance on 17 February, over 600 cars were stuck in a traffic jam due to the accumulation of snow and bad weather conditions, and on 21 February, a total of 429 traffic accidents were reported. M
