Lloyd’s, the world’s specialist insurance market, is exploring the option of establishing a presence in the Casablanca Finance City, and is holding discussions with the local authorities on the subject.
“This will give us opportunities to explore the whole Africa region,” said Mr Vincent Vandendael, Director of Global Markets at Lloyd’s, in an interview with the local business publication, L’Economiste. “In addition to Morocco, there is an interest in Tanzania where we are in discussions with the regulator.”
Mr Vandendael added: “We could provide assistance to local insurers and also provide products to support the continent’s growth and development in energy, both onshore and offshore; marine; aviation; transportation; construction and agricultural insurance. Other support lies in natural disasters and in this, we have expertise.”
Lloyd’s already has a presence in South Africa, and also licences to operate in Zimbabwe, Mali, Mauritius and Malawi.
