The region stretching from the western tip of North Africa to the eastern part of South Asia currently lacks a world-class financial centre. The DIFC, which opened in September 2004, aims to step into the void to be a financial hub for the region. This targeted market comprises 42 countries with a population of 2.1 billion people and a combined GDP of US$1.8 trillion.
