The board of directors of Orient Insurance, the UAE's biggest insurer in terms of insurance revenue and net profit, has approved the establishment of a takaful window.
The board approved it at a meeting on 25 September 2026 and disclosed it in a statement lodged with the Dubai Financial Market. The statement provided no details about the takaful window.
The move to open a takaful window aims to expand Orient Insurance’s Shariah-compliant financial services in the emirates.
In the UAE, Orient Insurance held, as of the end of 2025, a 95.78% stake in Orient Takaful, which is engaged in general insurance, according to the company's 2025 annual report.
During 2025, the Group’s Egyptian subsidiary, Orient Takaful Insurance, obtained regulatory approval from the Financial Regulatory Authority on 19 October 2025 to convert its operations from takaful to conventional insurance. Following this approval, the subsidiary changed its name to Orient Insurance – Egypt.
In addition, in its annual report, Orient Insurance said, “We commenced our operations in KSA in the last quarter of 2025. Our discussions are continuing with the regulator in Australia, where significant progress has been made towards launching our takaful operations.”
