Participation insurers (takaful operators) in Turkiye generated TRY70.1bn ($1.6bn) in contributions in 2025 in nominal terms, representing a 62.9% increase compared to the previous year, according to data from the Insurance Association of Turkiye (TSB).
This growth demonstrates the increasing interest in participation-based insurance products and the growing visibility of this sector within the industry.
The share of the participation insurance segment in the total insurance market reached 5.73% in 2025, up from 5.13% in 2024.
Of the TRY70.1bn, general takaful accounted for the lion’s share (96%) of the participation insurance market with contributions of TRY67.3bn. Family takaful reported contributions of TRY2.8bn (4% share). While general participation insurance grew by 63.3% last year compared to the previous year, participation life insurance grew by 54.3%.
In 2025, the share of participation insurance in the non-life insurance market was 6.45%, while the share of participation life insurance in the life insurance market was 1.57%.
In real terms, after taking inflation into account, participation insurance companies grew by 24.5%; non-life participation insurance by 24.8%, and family takaful life by 17.9%.
