The Tunisian Federation of Insurance Companies (FTUSA) has stressed the importance of insurance for all motorcycle users.
Ms Madiha Ayadi, FTUSA central director, conveyed this message in a radio broadcast over Express FM.
She said that there are four main categories of motorcycles: those with small engines; medium-sized; large and those with three or four wheels. Small and medium-sized motorcycles are the most common means of land transport in Tunisia. They are widely used in daily travel and also play a key role in supporting a livelihood.
She added that motorcycles account for about a third of road accidents in the country, especially small and medium-sized motorcycles, highlighting the critical importance of insurance in protecting drivers and other road users.
Currently, 15 Tunisian insurance companies offer motorcycle insurance plans that vary according to the type of motorcycle. It is therefore essential that the owner declares the type of vehicle precisely when subscribing to insurance, she emphasised.
For small motorcycles not subject to compulsory registration but for which insurance is mandatory, the FTUSA has set up an online insurance subscription platform. Motorcycle owners can visit the Federation's website, fill out a form with the necessary information (purchase contract, identity card), and receive their insurance policy after it has been processed by the relevant insurance company.
