The Health Insurance Company (Dhaman) will offer compulsory health insurance for expatriates, taking over from the Ministry of Health as the company keeps pace with the development plan of the state, according to Mr Ahmad Al Saleh, board member and CEO of Dhaman.
Discussions are underway with the ministry to determine the starting date of the service.
The current health insurance system needs to be developed to keep abreast with global developments and the Dhaman project reflects this vision, relieves pressure on health facilities and reduces government spending on the sector, Mr Al-Saleh said in an interview with Al-Rai.
He added that Dhaman is equipped with a health system with the establishment of three hospitals and a number of primary healthcare centres established across all governorates of Kuwait according to the demographic distribution of expatriates and places of concentration. “We will provide the beneficiary with a unified insurance policy, providing health coverage covering a specific list of medicines, analysis and X-rays.”
Mr Al-Saleh pointed out that Dhaman’s hospitals will provide secondary care only. Any treatment beyond secondary care such as specialised services will be handled by the Ministry of Health through state hospitals. M
