Source: Middle East Insurance Review | Dec 2023

Saudi Arabia has set SAR100,000 ($26,667) as the ceiling on health insurance coverage for foreign tourists visiting the kingdom.

Under the insurance policy, which was approved by the Saudi Council of Health Insurance, foreign tourists would be guaranteed access to health services in emergency cases only according to The Saudi Gazette.

The medical insurance policy lists the type of services covered and reimbursable expenses that are the actual expenses incurred. The reimbursable expenses include expenses for hospitalisation, medical checkups, diagnosis, treatment, and medication in emergency cases. Also included are premature births as part of the mother’s coverage.

The insurance policy also covers dental treatment that is limited to emergency cases, including fillings, treatment of nerve damage, abscess treatment and the required medication.

The policy also includes medical evacuation inside and outside the Kingdom, injuries sustained in traffic accidents, emergency dialysis cases and expenses for repatriation of the dead body of the deceased visitor.
Emergency medical services covered are to be provided by a network of healthcare providers approved by the Council of Health Insurance in all regions of the kingdom.

Health insurance for tourists can be obtained through the visa issuance platform and by filling out the tourist visa application form. According to the procedure, the health insurance policy will be valid from the date of issuance of the tourist visa. M
