Dark web monitoring service to help pre-empt cyber threats

Source: Middle East Insurance Review | Nov 2023

A new global monitoring system to detect potential cyber threats emerging on the dark web before they take hold within organisations has been launched by cyber security firm NCC Group.

The new system Online Exposure Monitoring (OXM) service, supported by dark web monitoring platform DarkIQ from Searchlight Cyber combines threat intelligence with automated alerts to continuously monitor an organisations’ digital risk.

It also sends alerts on incidents, including breached credentials, phishing domains and threat actor discussions on the dark web involving an organisation’s key personnel or assets.
The NCC Group said its teams will review all incidents and alerts and then help organisations with alert triage, threat hunting and risk mitigation actions.

Searchlight Cyber CEO Ben Jones said, “Cyber attacks don’t begin when a cyber criminal breaches the network – they start weeks or months before when threat groups undertake reconnaissance on deep and dark web sites.”

NCC Group chief technology officer Sian John said, “Organisations are often too focused on detecting threats once an attack has started but the fact is that earlier visibility of adversarial behaviour can reduce the impact. Organisations can be helped by providing them with a layered defence that detects risks earlier, reduces impact, risk and cost.” M
