Insurance veterans Messrs Tayseer Treky and Misbah Kamal have recently released ‘Memory of Arab Insurance: Interviews’ – a compilation of 10 interviews featuring industry practitioners from Iraq (Messrs Baha Baheej Shukri and Abdul Khaliq Raouf), Egypt (Mr Ezzat Abdulbari), Jordan (Messrs Rajaie Sweis and Zaki Noursy), Lebanon (Mr Pierre Chidiac), Palestine (Mr Aziz Abdul Jawad) and Syria (Messrs Abdul Latif Abboud and Aziz Saqr). There is also an interview with Jean Choueiri, an international reinsurance practitioner, originally from Syria.
The project was conceived with the aim of tracking Arab veteran insurers and exploring their personal histories through structured interviews. The authors wanted the younger generation of Arab insurance practitioners to learn about the formative years of the Arab insurance industry and its evolution. The book, which is in Arabic, provides insight into the formation and subsequent developments of insurers and institutions.
The two interviewers have used the publication to pay tribute to veterans who are no longer with us, highlighting their contributions to the development of their national insurance markets and beyond. By doing so, they have provided an incentive for would-be researchers to delve into writing about some of these pioneers of Arab insurance.
The authors have been collaborating for over three decades and have written and translated several books about the industry. This book is the first volume of a series that the authors plan to publish.
