Malaysia will introduce two programmes, the first of their kind in the world, to certify professional qualifications in Islamic finance, a central bank official has said.
The two certifications will be those of chartered takaful practitioner and chartered Islamic banker, reported the Nikkei Asian Review.
The programmes will be launched by the end of this year by the Chartered Institute of Islamic Finance Professionals, a professional body in charge of setting standards for Islamic finance practitioners.
Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), the country’s central bank and industry regulator, has been guiding talent development for the sector through its affiliated International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance and the International Shariah Research Academy for Islamic Finance.
“We would like to elevate the professionalism of talent in Islamic finance,” said Mr Marzunisham Omar, BNM’s assistant governor in charge of the sector. M
