A pilot project to classify and rate automobile workshops has been launched by the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) in partnership with Saaed, the traffic safety and incident management service, with the goal of raising the standard of car repair services in the emirate.
The classification scheme is the first of its kind for vehicle workshops in the emirate, and is a one- to five-star rating system based on seven standards, including security, health and safety, appearance and environment, manpower, tools and equipment, materials, and methods of work.
During the pilot stage, teams from Saaed visit automobile workshops to carry out their assessments under the new rating system. Workshops that fail to meet the mandatory requirements will be given a certain time period to meet the criteria.
“In offering services related to quality infrastructure, QCC seeks to support the objectives of the Abu Dhabi Plan, such as creating an enabling business environment and empowering the private sector,” said Mr Abdullah Hassan Al Muaini, Executive Director of the Conformity Scheme Services at QCC.
“The scheme aims to motivate car workshop owners to upgrade their offerings, improve the quality of their services, and ensure customer satisfaction,” he added.
The organisations involved in drawing up the new rating system included Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, Higher Corporation for Specialised Economic Zones, Department of Economic Development, the Centre of Waste Management, Abu Dhabi Occupational Safety and Health Centre, Abu Dhabi Chamber, the General Directorate of Civil Defence in Abu Dhabi, Health Authority – Abu Dhabi, and Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council.
