Saudi Arabia: Insurers urged to deal with accredited assessors

Source: Middle East Insurance Review | Apr 2017

The Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) has urged insurers to deal with accident damage assessment centres that are authorised by the Saudi Authority for Accredited Valuers (Taqeem).

SAMA aims to achieve a high degree of coordination with Taqeem in supervising estimates for vehicles damaged in road accidents, according to a report in Saudi Gazette.

Taqeem will set standards to establish damage evaluation centres and estimate damages caused to vehicles as a result of accidents, in line with international standards. The move is significant as authorities have noticed considerable discrepancies in estimates provided by different evaluation centres.

The new authority will provide training to assessors, give them accreditation certificates, and monitor their performance.

Taqeem will also prepare a detailed programme to classify and approve vehicle maintenance centres and workshops in the kingdom.

These moves are aimed at improving the standard of professionalism for all parties involved, including evaluation centres, workshops and insurance firms.
