Work-related accidents cause 3,000 deaths a year and injury to around 43,000, with the work health and safety situation remaining most worrying in Morocco.
The figures are estimates for the period between 2005 and 2014, according to the Insurance and Social Insurance Supervisory Authority (ACAPS).
These figures are not exhaustive and would in fact be higher because of the extent of the informal sector in certain high-risk occupational sectors such as construction and public works, reported Les Eco.
Precise statistics on accidents at work at the national and sectoral levels are unavailable.
The Ministry of Employment plans to set up a computer system to list work accidents and occupational diseases.
The risk of accidents at work in Morocco remains the highest in the MENA region, according to data from the International Labor Office.
By sector, the construction industry reports the most number of work-related accidents.
In early February, the government launched its Strategic Plan 2017 to promote occupational safety and health and to prevent occupational hazards in the construction industry.
