Islamic insurer, Al Madina Takaful, has launched a hajj and umrah travel insurance scheme.

Ms Fahima al Jahdhami, insurance officer at the company, said that this first-of-its-kind insurance scheme in Oman, which is Shariah-compliant, will ensure a better and safer journey for pilgrims.

The scheme provides coverage in case of accidental death, permanent total disability, emergency medical expenses, sickness, hospitalisation abroad, medical evacuation and loss of baggage and passport, in relation to pilgrims going on the hajj or umrah in Saudi Arabia.

The insurance covers infants from the age of three months to adults aged 110 years of age. Coverage available is for 7-45 days, reported Muscat Daily.

“Hajj and Umrah are a time of peace, reflection and prayer and this insurance is an assurance of peace on this journey of faith,” said Mr Usama al Barwani, acting CEO, Al Madina Takaful.
