Egypt: Losses from auto accidents exceed $3 bln in 2015

The cost of motor accidents in Egypt last year is estimated at EGP30.2 billion (US$3.4 billion) with the total number of accidents involving vehicles reaching 14,500, according to a statement issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The accidents caused around 25,500 casualties including deaths, a decrease by 16% from 2014.
In a breakdown, the data show that EGP24.1 billion is the total estimated cost of the 6,203 deaths caused by motor accidents last year; EGP3.7 billion in the case of the 15,847 injured and EGP0.6 billion for the 3,479 people who sustained minor injury. Insurers paid EGP1.8 billion in compensation as a consequence of the accidents, reported Bourse News.
Most of the accidents were caused by human error and the technical condition of vehicles.
