Qatar: Traffic accidents can now be reported at insurance firms

Source: Middle East Insurance Review | Jul 2016

The General Directorate of Traffic has opened five traffic investigation offices at major insurance companies in order to simplify procedures for motorists who are involved in traffic accidents, according to a Facebook post by the Ministry of the Interior.

The new service is provided as part of the integrated link between the Traffic Directorate and insurance companies to complete procedures in traffic accidents at one place. People involved in accidents can now directly go to the insurance company of the person who caused the accident and approach the traffic investigation office there to register the accident, reported The Peninsula newspaper citing the post.

Traffic investigators deployed at insurance companies will record the accident report electronically and communicate directly with the insurers.

Meanwhile, the accident victim will receive a text message with details of the case and he can approach the insurance company directly for his vehicle to be repaired.

Previously, motorists involved in traffic accidents had to wait until the police patrol reaches the accident site or go to the traffic investigation sections of the Traffic Directorate to report the accident and get a document with which to approach insurance companies. Under the new system, all phases of the traffic investigation services are completed electronically starting from recording details of the accident through to issuing the accident report.
