Eleven insurance leaders have made it to the 100-best performing CEOs of listed companies in the GCC, with Bupa Arabia CEO Tal Hisham Nazer being the only representative from the insurance sector to rank among the top 10.

Six of the 11 insurance CEOs were from Saudi Arabia, followed by three from Qatar and two from Kuwait.

Of the 100-best performing CEOs from all business sectors in the GCC, right at the top of the list was Mr Bassel Gamal, Group CEO of Qatar Islamic Bank. The second place was awarded to Mr Ali Mohammed Ali Al-Obaidli of Ezdan Holding Group and the third place was held by Mr Nasser Abdulrahman Rafi of Emaar Malls Group.

The awards, organised by Trends magazine and INSEAD Business School, honoured CEOs whose leadership had driven the performance of their companies and contributed to economic growth in the GCC. Besides financial data, corporate governance is also an integral part of the evaluation process with the involvement of Hawkamah in the ranking process.
