Willis Towers Watson appoints FI Leader for CEEMA 
Willis Towers Watson has appointed Mr Alexander van Kuffeler as Regional Leader of Financial Institutions in Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (CEEMA), with immediate effect. 
 
   Based in London, Mr van Kuffeler will focus on delivering the full range of Willis Towers Watson products, services and solutions to financial institution clients in the CEEMA region. 
 
   Previously, he served as an Executive Director in Willis’s political and trade credit risk practice, where he developed bespoke risk management solutions for clients. He joined Willis in 2008 and has more than 10 years’ experience in the credit and political risk market. 
 
 
Guy Carpenter names Head of Global Partners EMEA
Guy Carpenter & Company has appointed Mr Matthias Meyenhofer as Managing Director, Guy Carpenter, effective immediately.
 
   Mr Meyenhofer will lead the firm’s Global Partners client segment for EMEA and will be responsible for further improving and expanding the range of services provided to its large clients across the region. Based in Zurich, he will report to Mr Eric Paire, Head of Strategic Advisory and Global Partners.
 
   Mr Meyenhofer joins Guy Carpenter from the ACE Group, where he was Division President of ACE Tempest Re Zurich and responsible for all treaty non-life business underwritten from Zurich. In addition, he was an Executive Board member of ACE Reinsurance Switzerland. Prior to this, Mr Meyenhofer was Vice President and Reinsurance Treaty Underwriter at AXIS Capital, having joined the firm in 2004.
 
 
Jordan: AOIC appoints CEO
Mustafa Melhem
Arab Orient Insurance Co (AOIC), gig, has appointed Mr Mustafa Melhem as CEO, effective January 2016. 
 
   Previously, Mr Melhem served as the Deputy CEO for Medical, Business Department and Customers Services since 2010. In 2007, he became the Executive Director of AOIC’s Medical Insurance Department. He has been working in the medical insurance field in Jordan and the GCC states since 1997.
 
   Mr Melhem is also a board member at Arab Misr Insurance Group, gig, Egypt and member of the Jordanian-Canadian Business Association.
 
 
Jordan: First Insurance appoints COO
Firas Jamous
First Insurance Co (FIC) has appointed Mr Firas Jamous as Chief Operating Officer, effective December 2015. He joins FIC from Yarmouk Insurance Co, where he served as Deputy General Manager, Technical for around six years. 
 
   Mr Jamous has more than 17 years of experience in Jordan’s insurance market, where he has worked in various underwriting and managerial positions in the marine, non-marine and reinsurance fields.
 
 
Takaful Malaysia Chairman steps down 
Tan Sri Ismee Ismail has stepped down from his role as non-independent and non-executive Chairman of Syarikat Takaful Malaysia, on the expiry of his tenure in December 2015.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Takaful Malaysia said Mr Ismee has no disagreement with the board of directors. He is currently Group Managing Director and CEO of Lembaga Tabung Haji.
 
 
UAE: SALAMA’s GM for General and Health Takaful resigns
Islamic Arab Insurance Company – SALAMA announced that Mr Ahmed Sami Sharif has resigned as General Manager for General and Health Takaful and Assistant to the Group CEO.

   Mr Jean Safi, Reinsurance Manager and Head of SALAMA’s Non-Motor Business Unit (General Takaful), has assumed the position of Acting General Manager (General and Health Takaful), effective 4 January. 
 
 
UK: CII gets new CEO
Sian Fisher
Ms Sian Fisher has been appointed CEO of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) effective 1 February. She succeeds Dr Sandy Scott, who announced his retirement in March last year.
 
   Ms Fisher has a large breadth of experience in insurance, having held senior roles in a Lloyd’s Syndicate, a UK and European insurance company, a start-up intermediary, a managing general agent, a major international broker and US corporate. She was a founder and original board director of the Managing General Agents’ Association, and has held senior positions within both the CII and the Insurance Institute of London.
