Africa: Association expedites vehicle access across West Africa

Source: Middle East Insurance Review | May 2015

Drivers who commute across the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) sub-region will not be required to insure their vehicles when they cross over to other countries by the end of the second quarter of this year, said media reports.

This is because the West Africa Insurance Companies Association (WAICA) is introducing a sub-regional sticker to facilitate easy access. Under this scheme, drivers will only have to inform their insurers about their intention to travel to any of the ECOWAS countries.

The insurance company will then issue a sticker for the journey and drivers will not be required to insure their vehicles in the ECOWAS country they are entering.
