Morocco: Transport insurer turns to telematics

Transportation Insurance Company (Compagnie D’Assurance Transport or CAT) is turning to telematics to improve its performance, said media reports.
CAT, which specialises in the insurance of public transport, has partnered with STG Morocco, which offers GPS tracking systems and fleet-management solutions. The tie-up allows CAT to market services to fleet customers, combining insurance cover and telematics to help reduce traffic accidents and rationalise fleet management.
At the same time, CAT is revising its premium rates due to issues in urban and inter-city transportation, said CEO Bashir Baddou. “We still have some pretty serious difficulties that will require some price increases,” he told L’Economiste, a business newspaper.
CAT is therefore planning to raise its rates by 10% for this category of vehicles, the same increase effected on rates for small taxis last year, said Mr Baddou.
