Forty percent (40%) of vehicles in Senegal are uninsured, highlighting the need for increased controls and digitalisation of the insurance system to combat fraud, according to the Director General of the Motor Guarantee Fund, Mr Mamadou Gueye.
The Motor Guarantee Fund supports victims in the event of an accident involving an uninsured vehicle.
The Fund intends to go into the field every three months to carry out checks and help to reduce the number of uninsured vehicles, reported Senegalese Press Agency, citing Mr Gueye.
He also stressed the extent of the forged insurance policies. He said that the digitalisation of insurance now makes it possible to quickly verify the authenticity of an insurance policy.
He urged the insurance sector to raise awareness among users, particularly in localities where people do not trust insurance or do not know enough about it.
