The Insurance Association of Turkiye (TSB) says that insurance can move beyond its traditional role as a post-loss mechanism and become an integral part of climate-risk reduction, resilience financing and investment.
TSB made this comment in connection with the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), to be hosted by Turkiye in the resort city of Antalya in Turkiye on 9–20 November 2026
TSB says that its COP31 approach is based on scaling up climate action by accurately measuring climate risks, effectively mitigating them, and sharing them in sustainable ways.
Ahead of COP31, the TSB announced that it is setting up a platform, named Insurance House, at the event. This is to bring together insurers, reinsurers, policymakers, development finance institutions, investors and other stakeholders around practical climate-risk solutions. The themes to be covered included the protection gap, public-private risk sharing, catastrophe financing, renewable-energy insurability, agriculture, risk modelling and climate resilience.
The Insurance House is not merely an event space during COP31; it is a platform that generates initiatives, collaboration and lasting projects that can be implemented even after COP31.
