The government has convened a high-level consultative meeting to discuss the participation of private health insurers within the national healthcare ecosystem.
The goal is to establish a structured public-private engagement platform, according to Dr Ouma Oluga, Principal Secretary for Medical Services, as reported by the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation.
Dr Oluga said that the collaboration will prioritise cost containment, enhanced data sharing, efficient claims management, and robust safeguards against fraud and abuse.
“Collaboration between the Government and private health insurers is vital to harness synergies that support seamless healthcare access for all Kenyans. This partnership seeks to promote well-being, prevent avoidable conditions, and tackle key cost drivers in healthcare—critical steps towards realising Universal Health Coverage”, he said.
This initiative will strengthen policy alignment, improve cross-sector coordination, and support innovative approaches to sustainable healthcare delivery.
