| 01 Oct 2025

The League of Arab Actuaries (LAA) has established working groups to tackle challenges facing the compilation of mortality tables for Arab countries.

A report submitted by the League’s board was tabled at the LAA general assembly held on 29 September,.

The report set out the achievements of the first phase of the LAA’s action plan, approved at the 2024 GAIF general assembly meeting. It was agreed to begin implementing the second phase, which includes forming working groups from among LAA members to study the problems of compiling mortality tables and the obstacles preventing the issuance of mortality tables specific to each Arab country, while benefiting from the successful experiences of some Arab countries in this field.

Opening the general assembly, the General Arab Insurance Federation (GAIF) secretary general Chakib Abouzaid, commended the members of the League's board of directors for their continuous efforts since the League’s establishment in March 2023, praising their commitment to developing the actuarial profession and expanding its base in the Arab world.

The LAA chairman Wassim Al-Tabbah emphasised that LAA was established to unify the efforts of Arab actuaries and enhance cooperation among actuarial associations, raising awareness of the vital role actuaries play in supporting the insurance industry and addressing the challenges facing the profession's development.

The LAA operates under the umbrella of the GAIF and includes 118 members from 12 Arab countries.
