Motor insurance premium rates will change on two fronts, according to Mr Mohamed Hassan Bensalah, president of the Moroccan Insurance Federation (FMA).
Speaking at the 10th annual meeting of the National Federation of Insurance Agents and Brokers in Morocco (FNACAM) on 8 October, he confirmed that the revision of the compensation scale for personal injury in a motor accident will lead to price adjustments. This process has already begun and is expected to continue over the next four years. No specific rate of premium increase was mentioned.
He said that a second area of focus concerns the pricing of motor vehicle liability insurance. The work undertaken with the Supervisory Authority of Insurance and Social Insurance (ACAPS) aims to align premiums with risk profiles. Those with the best risk profiles will benefit from more favourable terms, while those with lower risk profiles will be priced accordingly.
Mr Abderrahim Chaffai, ACAPS president, explained that the pricing criteria had been revised based on in-depth actuarial studies. The goal is to bring the price of coverage closer to the insured risk.
The authorities started a pilot scheme on 1 July 2026 incorporating online insurance policies. This eliminates hard copies of motor insurance policies. Implementation of the online system, incorporating a QR code, is targeted for 1 July 2027.
Agents now have mobile terminals to read QR codes and check vehicle insurance status. The system allows policyholders to verify the validity of their coverage at any time.
