The insurance market saw total premiums grow steadily in the first quarter of this year compared to the corresponding quarter in 2025, according to the latest monthly publication released by the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA).
Gross written premiums for insurance companies in Egypt grew to EGP31.7bn ($620m) in the first quarter of 2026, representing 4.5% increase compared with the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
Property and casualty (P&C) premiums remained flat in 1Q2026 as they reached EGP17.5bn. Life and personal lines premium income grew by 11% to EGP14bn from EGP12.8bn in 1Q2025.
Paid claims for the market dropped by 4.3% to EGP13.2bn in 1Q2026 from EGP13.8bn in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. P&C claims fell by 16.6% year on year to EGP5.5bn. Paid claims increased by 7.2% to EGP7.6bn for life and personal lines.
