Egypt:Insurance federation says healthcare sector faces digital transformation challenges

| 21 May 2026

The Insurers Federation of Egypt (IFE) has confirmed that the country's healthcare segment is facing a series of strategic challenges related to digital transformation, most notably the high initial costs required to implement AI.

Another challenge is resistance to change within healthcare institutions, which may affect the pace of adoption of these technologies and limit full utilisation, the IFE said in a bulletin.

The IFE also elaborated on the financial burden of implementing AI, noting the costs of technical infrastructure, specialised software, training, as well as maintenance expenses and integration of the technology with existing systems.

Additionally, the federation highlighted that the challenge is felt more acutely among small and medium-sized health facilities or those operating with limited resources. This challenge, according to the IFE, may lead to a slowdown in the pace of digital transformation or weakened ability to compete in a health environment that increasingly relies on advanced technology.

The IFE also highlighted the importance of proactive risk management through the development of integrated crisis management plans before crises occur, assessment of potential risks and the development of rapid and effective response scenarios.
