The Algerian insurance market grew by 8.8% in 2025 to reach a record gross premiums of DZD200.5bn ($1.5bn), including international acceptances, compared to DZD184.3bn in the preceding year, whereas paid claims increased by 7.9% year on year.
According to the “National Insurance Market Outlook” report, released by the National Insurance Council (CNA), the provisional results show that property and casualty business for conventional players reached DZD165.8bn in 2025 against DZD152bn in the previous year, registering an increase of almost 9% and dominating the market with a share of around 83%.
Personal insurance lines, including health insurance amounted to DZD22bn in 2025 versus DZD21.2bn in 2024, representing a 3.5% growth and contributing 11% of the total gross premiums in the insurance market.
In the takaful segment, gross written contributions jumped by 84% to DZD1.45bn in the past year from DZD785m in 2024. General takaful business saw an increase of over 113% to DZD852m from DZD399m, while family takaful operations recorded a year-on-year increase of 54% to DZD595m. Both general and family takaful operations accounted for around 0.7% of the total premium income of the insurance market.
International acceptances (inward) increased by 12% to DZD11.2bn in 2025 from DZD10bn in the previous year, and accounting for less than 6% of total GWP.
