The rapid growth in Turkiye's maritime sector has created new needs in cargo insurance, transportation, and liability policies, according to Mr Murat Ciftci, CEO of IBS Insurance and Reinsurance Brokerage.
He made these comments to the maritime news agency Deniz following the release by Lloyd's List of the "100 List of the World's Top 2025 Container Handling Ports".
The number of Turkish ports on the list increased to five this year, compared to four in the 2024 list, with Aliaga being the newcomer.
The five Turkish ports are Ambarli (ranked 72nd), Kocaeli (86th) Aliaga (91st), Tekirdag (94th) and Mersin (98th).
Mr Ciftci said that the strengthening of Turkiye's port infrastructure creates new areas of need in terms of insurance and risk management.
He said, "Increasing container volume directly impacts ports' operational risks, liability insurance needs, and reinsurance capacity requirements."
