The Shariah-compliant segment of the life insurance sector has posted contributions to IDR11.99tn ($730.4m) in the first half of 2025, according to the Indonesian Life Insurance Association (AAJI).
Mr Budi Tampubolon, AAJI chairman, said, “The figure grew by 8.2% from IDR11.08tn in the corresponding half last year."
The pace of growth in 1H2025 was faster than the 7.6% year-on-year (YoY) growth achieved in the first half of 2024.
Despite the significant growth, the contribution of family takaful to overall life insurance remains below that of conventional life insurance. Family takaful business accounted for 13.69% of the industry's total premium income in the first half of 2025.
AAJI said that premium income from conventional life insurers amounted to IDR75.61tn in the first half of 2025. This figure contracted by 2.3% compared to IDR77.41tn in the corresponding period last year. Conventional life insurance premium income accounted for 86.31% of the industry's total premiums in the first half of 2025.
AAJI data indicate that the life insurance industry's total premium income reached IDR 87.6tn in the first half of 2025. This figure contracted by 1% compared to the same period the previous year.
