Qatar:Takaful sector profits reach US$92m in 2025

Qatari takaful companies posted profits attributable to shareholders of QAR335m ($92m) in 2025, representing a growth rate of 2.7% compared with 2024, according to Bait Al Mashura Financial Consultations Company.

In its report, “Islamic Finance in the State of Qatar”, Bait Al Mashura said that takaful insurance contributions in Qatar increased by 4.1% in 2025, reaching approximately QAR2bn.

Qatar's takaful companies include Al Khaleej Takaful, Damaan Islamic Insurance (Beema), Qatar Islamic Insurance, and Doha Islamic Insurance, a subsidiary of Doha Insurance Group.

Profits and contributions

Qatar Islamic Insurance recorded the sharpest profit growth in the sector, the report said, with earnings of about QAR153m, up by 18.8% year-on-year, while Beema’s profits jumped by 12.9%.

Over the five years to 2025, the report noted, takaful profits grew at a compound annual rate of 11.1%, with Beema posting the strongest long-run performance at 13.5%, followed by Qatar Islamic Insurance and Al Khaleej Takaful at 12.9% and 12.1%, respectively, while Doha Islamic Insurance’s compound annual profit growth over the period stood at just 1%.

In 2025, takaful contributions in Qatar increased by 4.1%, reaching approximately QAR2bn ($549m). Beema achieved the highest growth rate in insurance contributions, at 28.3%, followed by Al Khaleej Takaful Insurance at 19.7%, and then Doha Islamic Insurance at 11.8%. Over the five years (2021–2025), insurance contributions grew at a compound annual growth rate of 7.1%. The highest compound growth was recorded by Doha Islamic Insurance at 17.3%, followed by Al Khaleej Takaful at 11.7%, Beema at 10.5%, and Qatar Islamic Insurance at 2%.

The report found that underwriting results were mixed. Insurance surplus, or what is left over after claims and reserves on policyholders’ funds, varied sharply across the sector in 2025: Qatar Islamic Insurance posted the largest surplus of QAR22.5m, Beema followed with QAR11.8m, Al Khaleej Takaful recorded QAR10.2m, while Doha Islamic Insurance managed only QAR78,000.

Over the five years to 2025, takaful operators’ underwriting results were volatile, swinging between surpluses in some years and deficits in others.

Assets

The report recorded a 5.9% increase in the assets of takaful companies in 2025, reaching QAR4.7bn at the end of the year, compared with QAR4.4bn at the end of 2024.

Beema achieved the highest rate of asset growth during 2025, at 20.3%, followed by Al Khaleej Takaful at 2.4%, and Qatar Islamic Insurance at 1%.

During the 2021–2025 period, the compound annual growth rate of the assets of takaful companies in Qatar was 1.1%. Beema recorded the highest compound growth at 3.3%, followed by Qatar Islamic Insurance at 1.8% and Doha Islamic Insurance at 0.2%.

According to the report, the total assets of policyholders at takaful companies amounted to QAR2.1bn in 2025, an increase of 5% compared with 2024. Beema achieved the highest growth rate in policyholders’ assets in 2025, at 24.1%. The assets of policyholders at Doha Islamic Insurance grew by 10%.
