ME conflict:Taiwan's life insurance sector little affected by war

| 09 Apr 2026

The impact of the Iran-Israel-US war in the Middle East has yet to be felt by the Taiwanese life insurance sector.

Taiwan Ratings Corporation Associate Director Effie Tsai said this while responding to questions at an interactive webinar on 25 March.

Said Ms Tsai, “In terms of the sales momentum, for first-year premiums, growth has been quite good in 1Q2026. The sales momentum has not been impacted by the war so far.”

She also said, “There is less focus on the wealth management segment in the local insurance market. I think the impact is quite limited.”

Key discussion topics at the webinar, which had the theme “How Taiwan's Lifers Manage Their Financial Profile Amid a New Changing Era”, included trends in profitability metrics under IFRS17 and management of foreign exchange risk.
