Egypt:IFE pushes wider access and sustainable cover to drive insurance inclusion

| 24 Feb 2026

The Insurers Federation of Egypt (IFE) is working to broaden the scope of sustainable insurance and advance insurance inclusion, with the aim of ensuring that all citizens have access to insurance services through a range of targeted initiatives.

In its latest weekly bulletin released on 22 February, the Federation highlighted that key measures include organising seminars, conferences and workshops to promote awareness and deepen technical knowledge in the field. It also underscored its commitment to supporting the Egyptian insurance market through regular educational bulletins, which share insights on global trends and emerging developments across the industry, as well as evolving risk landscapes.

The IFE said these efforts are intended to equip professionals across the industry with the tools to assess and analyse emerging risks, and to design effective technical responses to address them. By doing so, the Federation aims to strengthen the insurance market’s capacity to fulfil its essential role and contribute to national economic development.

The Union also reaffirmed its commitment to playing an active role in dialogue around future risks — particularly climate-related exposures — and to taking concrete steps to tackle these challenges in a manner that supports sustainable development.

The IFE noted that these steps include cooperation with the Financial Regulatory Authority through the Sustainable Insurance Roadmap Committee, to develop a sustainable insurance strategy for the Egyptian insurance market and to study legislation and decisions that would activate the principles of sustainable insurance in Egypt, while studying the most important challenges that may be faced in actual application and trying to overcome these challenges.

The bulletin also indicated that on the sidelines of the Sharm El Sheikh 6th and 7th Forum for the years 2024 and 2025, the Federation launched the "g green" initiative by planting 50 trees for two consecutive years in the Friendship Garden in Sharm El Sheikh, under the auspices of Al Mohandes Insurance Company and the Egyptian Takaful Insurance Company - Property.

The Federation also purchased 350 carbon emission reduction certificates through the regulated voluntary carbon market.

Based on its educational and awareness-raising role, the IFE is keen to prepare and issue several specialised publications that address sustainability issues in all their dimensions. These publications aim to raise awareness of the concepts of sustainable insurance and finance, and to highlight the role of the insurance sector in supporting the path of sustainable development.

The Federation will continue to transfer international best practices to the Egyptian market, which contributes to enhancing the insurance sector's resilience and ability to withstand changing risks and consolidating its position as one of the main pillars of support for the national economy.
