Foreign vehicles entering Qatar through the Abu Samra Border Crossing will be able to obtain motor insurance online before entering the country, speeding up the border entry process.

The online system will start operating on 1 February 2026.

The Qatar Unified Insurance Bureau launched the electronic system, MSAR, that will allow tourists with non-Qatari vehicle licences to electronically complete vehicle insurance proceduresshort-term (one week / two weeks) or long-term (one month or more that is valid for multiple trips), reported the newspaper The Peninsula.

The system comprises of an app and a website. Users can download insurance documents, make payments, receive notifications, and access round-the-clock technical support.

In addition, the Chairman of the Qatar Unified Insurance Office, Ali Ibrahim Al-Abdalghani, said that vehicles with valid prior insurance acquired online will have a dedicated lane at the border, allowing for a faster entry process.
Travellers without existing electronic insurance can process their insurance at the designated counters within the port for durations of one month or longer.

The introduction of the system is to broaden the digitalisation of services in Qatar and to simplify processes, thereby improving the efficiency and quality of public services.

Abu Samra is the land border crossing point for vehicles travelling in and out of Qatar.
