AXA consolidates its business units in Egypt under new CEO

AXA Egypt has announced that it is consolidating its operations in the Egyptian market under one AXA umbrella, in a strategic step aimed at enhancing the integration of the group's various activities, and providing integrated solutions involving insurance, healthcare and financial inclusion.

AXA operates in Egypt through three main entities, namely, AXA Egypt, OneHealth, and Sawa. AXA Egypt, which started its business in 2015, has succeeded in building a strong presence in the Egyptian insurance market. OneHealth provides an integrated healthcare system through more than 1m consultations annually. Sawa is a microinsurance joint venture with the Egyptian Postal Authority for Investment.

The company explained that the move seeks to ensure a more flexible and efficient business model, which places customer protection, healthcare service development and innovation at the heart of growth strategies.

Management

In this context, AXA announced the appointment of Ms Minouch Abdel-Maguid as CEO of AXA Egypt, following the necessary regulatory approvals. She will lead the activities of the three entities of the group and implement a unified vision and integrated strategic directions, under the leadership of Ms Nuria Fernandez, CEO of AXA Africa and Turkiye.

Ms Abdel-Maguid replaces Mr Omar Shelbaya, who has decided to pursue new career opportunities outside the AXA Group

She brings over 25 years of experience across several sectors, including banking, FMCG, and automotive. She has also held leadership positions at the FRA and spearheaded numerous business transformations across various industries. She joined AXA in July 2025 to lead Sawa before being appointed CEO of AXA Egypt.

In a related move, Dr Michael Youssef, the CEO of OneHealth and supervisor of the company's operations in Egypt and Nigeria, has joined the AXA Egypt Executive Committee to support enhanced integration across the Group's entities and accelerate the implementation of its strategic priorities.
