Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli said Egypt's universal health insurance system reflects the state's vision of building a strong and inclusive healthcare framework that places citizens' health and dignity at the top of national priorities.
According to The Egyptian Gazette, Mr Madbouli made the remarks during a meeting with Dr Ahmed el-Sobky, head of the General Authority for Healthcare, to review preparations for the second phase of the universal health insurance programme.
He said that the health of citizens is a top priority for the government, calling for respectful and facilitative treatment of all beneficiaries, particularly the most vulnerable groups, while adhering to standards of quality, efficiency and transparency to ensure high-level services.
Meanwhile, Dr Sobky said the General Authority is moving steadily to enhance the universal health insurance system and expand its services, noting that this has helped strengthen public confidence and position Egypt as a leading regional and international model in implementing universal health coverage policies.
He pointed out the achievements during the first phase of the rollout, with more than 105m medical and treatment services being provided by 2025. This underscored the state’s commitment to delivering safe and quality healthcare under the insurance scheme.
He also said that intensive preparations are underway to launch the second phase, which includes upgrading and equipping healthcare facilities to the latest medical and technological standards, further support for the sector with qualified medical staff, and the roll out of advanced training programs to improve workforce efficiency.
These preparations include upgrading operating systems and expanding digital transformation to improve service efficiency, speeding up procedures for beneficiaries and enhancing patients’ experience.
Mr Madbouli also said that the service quality of the system needs to be maintained, emphasising attention to cleanliness, security and maintenance across healthcare facilities to ensure their sustainability.
He reaffirmed that healthcare will remain at the forefront of the government’s agenda.
