Kenya:Insurer launches COVID-19 cover for ride-hailing passengers

British-American Insurance Company (Britam) has launched a COVID-19 insurance cover for ride-hailing firm Little's passengers in Kenya, reported Business Daily Africa.

To get coverage under this COVID-19 insurance, passengers will need to pay KES10 ($0.09) per trip for a personal accident policy which provides up to KES150,000 coverage.

If a passenger tests positive for COVID-19 within 10 days of the last trip, Britam will provide home-based care to the rider through its telemedicine services which comprise the provision of medical kits and essential medicines, teleconsultations with a doctor and nurse, nutritionist and mental health consultation.

“Now as the economy reopens, we want to build on our digital experience and expand health care support to these customers by providing them with access to home care treatment in case of COVID-19,” said Britam group managing director Benson Wairegi.

As COVID-19 numbers rapidly rise, the health ministry in Kenya has pushed for home-based care for asymptomatic patients. Kenya had 1,262 patients on home-based care while 1,262 are admitted in hospitals.
