Jordan:Govt warns against dental insurance scam

| 25 Nov 2020

The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply and the Jordan Dental Association have warned citizens against dealing with unlicensed companies promoting prepaid dental treatment cards as insurance plans.

The ministry, in cooperation with the association, screened a public awareness video on its website and Facebook page about the best insurance services for citizens through licensed insurance companies and licensed support insurance service providers, reported Al Ghad. The video is part of a campaign launched by the ministry to warn the public against purchasing such cards and to purchase insurance policies only through licensed channels. The ministry will list on its website the names of insurance companies or licensed support insurance service providers, insurance agents, insurance brokers and banks licensed to conduct bancassurance.

The educational video was released after the ministry received a complaint from the Dental Association about the need to stop unlicensed companies from promoting prepaid cards for dental treatment under the label "dental insurance".

The ministry indicated that these cards “are just discount cards that are not recognised by insurance companies, and therefore dentists do not deal with them as insurance documents”.

The ministry, in cooperation with other concerned authorities, has intensified its follow-up on the unlicensed companies through continuous inspection tours and taking legal measures against them.
