Egypt:Health insurance law to be amended to provide for specialised medical insurers

| 15 Oct 2020

Amendments are being prepared to the Comprehensive Health Insurance Law that will include a mechanism to regulate the specialised medical insurance companies and healthcare companies, according to Mr Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance and chairman of the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance.

The minister added that the functions of the specialised health insurers include offering services to complement those provided by the state sector, reported Masrawy.

Mr Maait called on the Insurance Federation of Egypt (IFE) to create insurance products suitable for medium, small and micro enterprises, in conjunction with the to-be-amended law.

He stated that the government seeks to strengthen the partnership with civil society and the private sector in order to achieve integration between the comprehensive health insurance system, the medical insurance industry and healthcare providers.
