Saudi Arabia:Traffic authority to resume penalising vehicle owners who lack auto cover

09 Jul 2020

Saudi Arabia's General Department of Traffic has reminded all vehicle owners to have valid vehicle insurance. The Department says that it would resume imposing penalties for traffic violations with effect from 22 July.

In a statement, the Department stated that a number of traffic services, including vehicle registration, have resumed after the lifting of the suspension of such services during the COVID-19 lockdown.

The mechanism which the Department applies stipulates that when any traffic violation is registered with respect to a vehicle, the vehicle record is automatically checked, and when it becomes clear that there is no insurance coverage on the vehicle, the violation is recorded.
